What to Wear?
When we visit the California Institution for Women in Corona, CA we are guests of the prison and must carefully follow prison rules, include those governing proper attire and what may and may not be brought into the prison.
GENERAL RULE
Nothing may be brought “inside” and left with a woman unless there is prior written approval from the prison. Nothing may be brought out from the prison without prior written prison approval.
CLOTHING
• NO BLUE JEANS OR OTHER BLUE CLOTHING • NO FLIP-FLOPS OR BACKLESS SANDALS • NO ARMY GREEN • NO ORANGE • NO SHORTS • NO SPAGHETTI STRAPS OR STRAPLESS SHIRTS • SKIRTS SHOULD BE BELOW THE KNEE • NO MULTIPLE ZIPPERS

• Photo ID

• 1 car key • a pen and paper

• PURSES • CELL PHONES • FOOD • MONEY
During a cross-over conversation, a mutual inter8st in letter writing may surface.
• Obtain the name and housing information for the woman on the inside. • DO NOT give your home address at this time. • It is recommended you participate in the established Pen Pal Project outlined in the Get Involved page of this website. • Suggestion: “It has been great meeting you. If I choose to write, the rules state, I can no longer come inside to participate in the general meetings. Let me think it over. I don’t want to commit to something I won’t or can’t follow through on.”
Social protocol inside:
• Handshakes are permitted. • No hugging. • No kissing. • No hand-holding. • Listen compassionately. • Acknowledge the person the woman “inside” has become without emphasis on her offense. |
